Kakinbow is an area in Conakry, Guinea-the West African city where founder & designer Mbaye Ndaw grew up. After Ndaw chooses the fabrics from markets and shops in Mali, Senegal (where he now lives), and Guinea.
Ndaw is able to take the beautiful fabrics, leathers, and accessories from different areas of West Africa. He takes traditional and modern designs to make men’s, women’s, and children’s fashions, accessories, and home goods. Ndaw prides himself on his goods being sourced, designed, and manufactured by local people inside and in the areas surrounding Dakar, Senegal, where he resides with his wife and two daughters.
Julie Rukavina, the contact and applicant, is simply a good friend of Mbaye and his wife who resides in the DC area. She is so proud of the work Mbaye does, that she wants to see his goods sold at Crafty Bastards and is willing to work the booth if accepted into the craft show. Mbaye is available via skype or facetime as he lives in Dakar in case there needs to be any verification.
