Mamie Wilkins (Cockamamie Jewelry) creates jewelry using age- old metalsmithing techniques such as cutting, forging, soldering, riveting, sewing, patination, to name a few. Wilkins has a newly introduced line of modern metal neckpieces, bangles, and earrings along with one-of-a-kind antique assemblage pieces that Cockamamie has become known for in years past. Cockamamie Jewelry represents a convergence of yesterday and today.
Wilkins creates situations in which everyday objects are altered or detached from their natural function. By applying specific combinations and certain manipulations, different functions and contexts are created.
For NYFW, September 2016, emerging designer, Jon Milner, chose to show his fashion line that concentrates on deconstruction, proportion, and juxtaposition with the timeless pieces that are Cockamamie Jewelry.
Wilkins currently resides in Raleigh and can be found making jewelry in her downtown studio with her pug, Jack BowWow’r.
